Crack-prone vacuum hose turning on the check engine light (2000-2002)

I checked my '01, these hoses are so brittle, when trying to pull them off the fittings, they came apart in several places.
I had the dreaded CEL on with a peculiar twist - re-starting the engine without a complete cool down made the CEL go off, but after each cold start it came back on, i.e. the secondary air pump is activated only for a short period while the engine warms up, activating that valve with the leaking hoses.
Thanks for sharing this info - this board is really great!

My 2000 a6 2.8L has been throwing out all kinds of emission-related codes (i.e., sec.air.inj. blah blah blah, bank2sensor2malfunction, etc...) but, upon further checking resistance (OHMS) on all four O2 sensor 4-pin harness connectors with a multimeter, they all read at below 10 OHMS which means that they are alright. What I did discover though was that all the vacuum hoses around the secondary air injection solenoid valve were brittle and frayed. Could these be the culprits? And if so, what size are these bad boys? Thanks!
