I think that one of them is crankshaft rotation speed sensor G28 and the other one is crankshaft's position sensor G4. G4 combined with G40 which is camshaft position sensor gives the exact moment of specific piston on its way through the 4-stroke cycle which covers 720⁰ of crankshaft rotation.

I meant to say remove Left Front wheel for North American models.
Should read: On my 2000 A8L (4.2) the Crankshaft/Engine Speed Sensor is on the driver's side of the transmission just in front of the axle. It can be accessed by removing the left front wheel.
