I also have the cruise control that does not work. It actually works once in a while but 90% it doesn't. I have tried everything from holding the switch four seconds, to jabbing it rapidly, but no cigar. What should I do to fix it?

I also experienced the intermittent cruise control problem. I replaced the turn signal stalk thinking that this was the problem but that didn't help. I checked everything that the Bentley manual said to check but I couldn't find anything wrong.
The only thing that I couldn't test is the controller itself which I suspected was the problem. The controller is about $300+ so I really didn't want to spend that much money if it wasn't the problem. Thanks to Paul W who alerted me to an e-bay auction, I was able to win the action for about $63 dollars.
I installed the controller (part number 443 907 305A) and the problem was solved. I did a little looking though the ETKA part catalog and found that it is the same controller that is used in the mid '90 Audi 80, 90, A4 and A6 as well as the A8.
I have no idea what goes bad in the controller, especially since it is intermittent. I took it apart and didn't see anything wrong with it. It is great to have the problem solved and I have Paul W to thank for that.

It is the cruise computer. It is located passenger side of the car next to the firewall.
Do make sure you got the right part number.
When calling the junk yards, check what part number they have.
CHeck with someone who has etka for your part number. Make sure that if the part number correct, revision is also correct. (it could make a big difference!)
In fact I think part number listed above fits my 99 a8 but I am not sure. WIll ask on the forum in a sec.
