Default CV Boot and Wheel Bearing

I just had both my CV Boots replaced and a day later I get a wheel bearing noise coming from the front-end. Could they be related? The dealer is telling me no, it's just a coincidence.

Seems strange to me. I don't mind paying if it's not related, but I have a feeling the dealer did something incorrectly.

Default I would make sure the axle bolts is torqued down

And if it's not that, I would make sure that the joint is properly re packed.

Default According to them, they installed the boots properly.

Whatever that means....

Could it be a coincidence that a bearing just suddenly goes out?

Default when I first changed my pass side axle

from raxles ... I seemed a little louder than the bad org one, but it seemed to quiet down to almost nothing after about a week. Were not talking about a loud noise or hummmmm, are we? Cause that would be a problem. Also, could have been a bad wheel bearing that got "mad" at the loosening and re-torquing from the change, but the shop should have checked and noticed it was bad when they changed the axle!

Default Hum, like a cupped tire at highway speeds. It's not loud though.

It's probably hard to diagnose because the hum isn't too bad at this point.

Default what may have happened...

The technican who performed the work may have used some degreaser to clean the area before or after he worked on the CV boot. A torn CV boot would have spewed grease everywhere. If some of the degreaser gets into the wheel bearing it will dry up. A dry wheel bearing will overheat and wear out fast and start to hum. Check the area and see if its clean, if so thats an indication that this may have happened. It is also possible that the lossening of the nut and retightening caused just enough of a disruption to the bearing to casue it to fail. either way you will have to replace the wheel bearing. Consider swapping tires side to side just to be sure it's a bearing noise. These are the joys of owning a used car and why I do all the work myself. I'd suggest driving for a week and see if it goes away. If it gets woese stop driving and get it repaired. You could also have the bearing checked. If the bearing is bad, a technican should be able to tell by turning it by hand and feeling for smoothness.
