...from one of the chip tuners. I'm, out of town now and can't check which one, but you may want to call around and see if any of the regular chip tuners has one.
Mine was a for my 2000, failed ECU caused two cylinders to not spark (or not deliver fuel??).
Opend the ECU and it was a little moist with two fried leads..uggh.

plug even when you switched coils, right? That result should lead towards an ignition circuit problem of some sort. Hold up on the ECU purchase (unless you just want a spare for $250) until that has been thoroughly checked. There is Ignition module(not called that) as I recall for each engine bank. Paul has got your back. Review his advice closely. He's only mad when it comes to mods.

Went to "stealer" yesterday-New ECU($1975) used are $750-900! One can't use an ECU from '98-99! What luck!
I'm going over the Bentley wiring diagrams so am fully able to understand Paul's comments. Have a friend who is an electronics wiz coming over to help me out with the testing. See what happens.
Thanks for your support through all of this. It sure helps reduce the feeling of "being aone".

First off- I must admit that I'm not nearly as familiar with the electrical diagrams as you are-that being said, I have pulled the diagrams 1/7-1/9 off the Bentley. Studied the flow and highlighted every connection you mentioned. Interestingly, I was surprised to see that the brown connectors on the power output stage are for cylinders 2,3,5,8. Ok, so I'm learning that conventional wisdom of 1-4 and 5-8 being on the same power stage!
Here's my first question. How do I know which connecter on the ECU corresponds to the connection of B14-B16? Do I need to disconnect the battery before pull any of the connections off of the ECU?
Second question. You mentioned measuring the voltage on the input to the coil pack. Wouldn't I need to turn the engine over to do this test?
I realy appreciate all your help with this problem. I feel like I'm actually gaining some knowledge about these beasts! SAB
