The difference in circumference is <1%.
Assume the front tire is mounted on a 19x8.5" wheel with an ET35. A 285/35-19 tire requires a 19x10" wheel. Using trial-and-error with the Wheel Offset Calculator, an ET54 would put the outside of the wheel at the same point as the 8.5" ET35 wheel. The inside of the wheel would extend in 38mm, and you'd need to confirm that there's no interference with the suspension.
I'm not really particularly fond of the staggered setup on quattro's because of the negative effect on handling. Already excessive understeer just gets worse.<ul><li><a href="http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html">Wheel Offset Calculator</a></li></ul>
