Default Dead A8L

The dealer called me to day and told me that the instrument cluster caused my Audi to not start. Needs a new cluster and the warrantee I have does not cover the item. It will cost me $1500 installed. Is this about right? I am somewhat taken by it because it turns but will not run and hard for me to believe that the cluster is causing it. What do you think?

Default You might want to call these guys

They came up on a search.....the only downside about putting in used a cluster is that the mileage will be what it is you can't change it and it will take a bunch of programing, but so would a new one.

I would research it to make sure that it would work for sure before I bought a used one.

http://www.sgrgerman.com/</a

Default Audi

I called AUDI and spoke to a customer relations person (they had a name for it and I forgot) and I told them that a cluster should not go bad at 70k miles. She found my name from 98 record when I owned a A4. She will submit to Audi and will call me tomorrow to let me know if Audi can do something about this. Cross my fingers.

I looked at the site, Paul. You are right. I am not sure if I want this to happen again and I would rather pay the dealer and get it done right.

Default What does the instrument cluster...

have to do about the car NOT running? What am I missing? Personally they would have to give me a lot better reason than "the instrument cluster is bad" before I would fork over $1500!!! This doesn't make sense.

Default It won't work with the instrument cluster not hooked up

I don't know if this is an 00 and newer thing or not....but if all electrical connections aren't perfect, it won't start.

airbill and I figured that out doing his Nav Plus install.
