Death By Jack

Last night (10:30 PM) on my way home from the city (Philadelphia) I pulled to the side of the road to let my better half finish the drive home. as I pulled over to the shoulder, I hit a few potholes which blew out my front right tire. I figured, no big deal.... I loosened the lug nuts, then jacked up the car... and just as I got the last one off...the car rotated backwards off the jack and came crashing down! The rotor landed on the inside of the wheel...and there I was, all dressed up, standing stranded on the side of the most dangerous highway in Philly.
The Audi Jack twisted into a pretzel! What a piece of complete sh*t! The car almost dropped down to sever my arm! The jack is so twisted that it wont even wind-up or down anymore. It is trash. I would love to post picts to have you see it...
Anyway, AAA is nearly as dumb as the Jack..in that they were trying to send a tow-truck without a jack! It was an hour and a half later when the cops finally showed up..and i used the jack in their Crown Victoria to fix the wheel. I was done in 5 minutes! Horray to the PA State Police! They saved our asses out there. Not to mention were really nice guys!
After reading others' stories about the infamous Audi Car Jack..i have concluded that these things are a danger to humanity and should be banished from our cars. **WARNING** do NOT use those things unless your car is perfectly flat, parking break is on, no wind sheer present, and the outside temp is exactly 70.250 degrees! Otherwise you could be in deep trouble.
Now to go and find another jack... i found this site, which may have a few good replacements... I have owned 19 Volkswagens, and 4 Audis... as well as a Porsche 993. I am passionate about the cars..but their jacks suck! (except for the Porsche). Anyway... Happy Motoring. I hope I helped save a limb or two!

http://order.harborfreight.com/EasyAsk/harborfreight/results.jsp?ts=Sun%20Aug%2007%2012:41:31%20PDT%202 005</a

Let me know if you find a good replacement, but in the meantimes I'm using this Sears 2-1/4 Floorjack. It's nothing to brag about, but it's only $40 and comes with a case that allows it to be easily carried in the trunk.

... i just threw it into the trash! I have the same Sears jack as you... but now I need to find a replacement for the car that is a bit smaller. I should send the Audi jack to Audi and ask if it was a hoax!

pieces of crap, and Audi will be paying through the nose. Mine bent in the same way (same failure mode) the first time I tried to use it, but I saw it starting to bend before I could get hurt. Audi should recall all of these and replace them with safe jacks.

He had jacked up the front of the car in the flat Grattan Raceway paddack area, and the jack collapsed just after he removed his hand from the top of the tire. My stomach twisted into a knot, if he was 3-4 seconds slower he could severed his hand at the wrist.
