Do the auto dimming outside mirrors retrofit into a 97 A8? Are the wires there? or...

.. do we need other parts to get them to work.

I think it requires the auto-dim inside rear view mirror...That mirror has wires that connect into

the auto-dim side mirrors, somehow.

The wiring is not in there

Here's my 97 without auto dimming mirrors:

And here's a 98 with auto dimming mirrors:

It wouldn't be easy to wire it up....and the mirrors are something like $250 each for the glass.
