I have not bought tires in a few years and got sticker shock. $250 for one!
The last tires i bought for an A6 were Yokohamos which I thought were a good price to miles value. I guess they wore ok but rode hard and vibrated. End of problem when A6 got toasted.
I just bought an 2000 A8L with 245/45-18. It came with Yokos but I planned on replacing them as they only have 40% or so left. I thought about Michilens. (maybe pilots, primacy or HX). Ride and comfort are my #1 issue. And yes, it snows in Michigan.
This is a Grandfather's car, not a go-fast-around-corners car. So what else should I be considering that will ride nice, not start vibrating after 15,000 miles and not be made of gold?

Sorry, really don't have a good recommendation on brands, other than the high $$ ones.
This is one of the reasons I ended up going back to my OEM 17" Audi wheels (was using 18" OZ's). The selection of tires in 245/45/18 is so limited and all high dollar, with the exception of "off brands" I might be scared of.
Plus, I like the ride and am more than satisfied with the handling of the 225/55/17's...bigger selection and WAY cheaper, too.
I feel your pain

In MI, I always used snow tires in the winter and road tires in the summer. I'd looks for some 17s like silverd2 and get some Nokian Hakka Rs. That's what I use for winters now on the S8.
