Do you guys have one of these inside your intake air box?

as it has it's own air filter, it doesn't really need to be in the air-box. on the a6, the pump is outside the air-box, but plumbed in so that it draws filtered air from it.
the a8 unit draws in *unfiltered air* from the plumbing in the air-box, hence it's use of a separate air-filter. if you removed it from the air-box, it would operate quite happily outside of it. the hose that goes to the combination valve could be made to work with an alternative location (within limits). for this approach, just use a pre-facelift air-box and mount the pump to it.
alternatively get an a6 secondary air pump, and a pre-facelift a8 air-box, and plumb them to work together.
you could always simply disable the 2nd air system and use a pre-facelift air-box. but that would be naughty....
