I think the mileage is a little less (80k?), 7 years sounds correct

Default I'm not certain of the years or mileage restrictions, mine failed within the warranty period but...

...my local Audi dealer refused to do it under warranty claiming that there were signs of external damage - the asking price from them to replace it was around $1200 if I recall correctly.

The independent muffler shop that replaced mine said that the dealers claim was BS.

Anyway, that is how I ended up with the code throwing non-OEM CAT.

AND, that is another reason why I hate my local Audi dealership.

Default yes, mine didn't work. I had two new ones on an S6 2.2 turbo. It would not pass emissions...until

...until I bought a pair of used ones with 100K miles on them...and now the car passes with flying colors -- like just a few ppm HC and CO2 versus values in the hundreds and 3-4 times the allowed emissions. The Cats were sold to me by a mechanic and installed as "re-cored" -- which I later found out meant that he had someone cut off the ends of the pipes and welded them to a pair of generic Cats -- for $600 ea! It never passed emissions. The first time, the mechanic got it to pass -- AKA he faked the results somehow - and made 500% profit on Cats that don't work. Two years later I went back to him and he claimed that the Cats must have worn out. I can't explain why they did not work...I have no idea. But I'm amazed at how clean a pair of 10 y/o used OEM Cats run. I ran into the same issue with the rest of the exhaust, paying $1000 for Stebro...only to later have to buy a used system off a '93 for $100. Something about that OEM exhaust -- it's solid and IMO not replaceable with after-market. Although...this story applies to the S6 2.2t, not an A8.
