Default JimR, I searched the parts catalog and it looks like

they talk about an overflow on page 6 third box. Here is a cut and past and the link is below:

With the engine stopped, add ATF, only use lubricants as to specification (see Page 3),
through the fill hole up to the edge of the overflow hole. Install fill plug (Pos. 03.010/130).

does that make sense?

http://www.zf-group.com/pdf/5HP24A.pdf</a

Default Thanks for all who posted. I was a little worried, but Now I feel better.

I did not think they would put in an ATF that was bad, but it did bother me a little and wanted to check on it before I went to bed.

Thanks Again.

Have a great night(in my case sleep time)

Default Not really.

The fill hole is a raised bump in the bottom of the transmission pan, with a plug in it. You fill while idling, until fluid seeps out of the fill hole. Then you put the plug back in place, and only then turn the car off. Once the fill hole is plugged, nothing can leak out. See the pic above, from the Audipages transmission service procedure, as well as page 7 of that ZF document in your post.

Unless someone didn't put it back . . .?

Or didn't put it back right, and it fell out . . .?

Default Perhaps for some. But for Passat, it's this same Esso yellowish-clear ATF.

The bottles from the dealer are labeled Audi & VW. And the various Passats, and presumably the Phaeton, use ZF transmissions just like the Audis.

Default Different ATF than ours.

That pic showed part number G 052 990 A2 for the ATF. Ours is G 052 162 A2 (I'm looking at a bottle).

Is that even a ZF transmission? It's not in the ZF application list. So a different fluid shouldn't be unexpected.

ZF transmission application chart.

Default JimR, that makes sense. The overflow is the refill hole!

I will investigate. Now that I think about it they did not specifically say it was a separate hole. It must not be there or is leaking like you said?

They are also supposed to provide me with the information on what fluid they used and why. They told me the technical POC's they use as phone in's told them and they are waiting on a fax from them per my request.

Will update later tonight.

Thank You.
