I recently posted questions on cost of replacing the oil cooler and most replied with a cost of approx 1K. I was wondering if you think that:

1. Did the leak start because I used a non Audi anti-freeze? It used the red Prestone and recently was adding clear Zerex. Both are approved for low corrosion, but I am now wondering of they could have damaged the o'ring at the neck of the plastic tubes?

2. Do you have any suggestions on "radiator stop leak products"? I am concerned about gunking up the parts such as water pump, thermostat, ...

I wouldn't use radiator stop or whatever you might want.

If you take the front end off, which is not that long of a procedure, then remove the alternator, getting to the oil cooler is much simplier.

Even though the other stuff says it is compatible, I do not think it is 100%. Flush it and go with the Audi stuff. It's a few bucks more, you can get it at any Audi or VW dealer.
