Default Are you implying the MB is built more cheaply, thus allowing MB to

make a larger profit per vehicle ? ;-)

Default ISO rating symbols

ISO (Insurance Services Office) symbols are widely used throughout the insurance industry. While some companies maintain their own sybmbols, as a general rule, they do not deviate too much from ISO. The following is an exerpt from ISO's 2001 model year symbols.

Make & Model Rate Symbol Price New Symbol
Audi A8_____________24_______________25
Audi A8L____________24_______________25
Audi S8_____________25_______________26
Mercedes S500_______26_______________26

What the symbols mean:
Symbol Price Range
1__________________0-6500
2__________________6501-8000
3__________________8001-9000
4__________________9001-10000
5__________________10001-11250
6__________________11251-12500
7__________________12501-13750
8__________________13751-15000
10_________________15001-16250
11_________________16251-17500
12_________________17501-18750
13_________________18751-20000
14_________________20001-22000
15_________________22001-24000
16_________________24001-26000
17_________________26001-28000
18_________________28001-30000
19_________________30001-33000
20_________________33001-36000
21_________________36001-40000
22_________________40001-45000
23_________________45001-50000
24_________________50001-60000
25_________________60001-70000
26_________________70001-80000
27_________________80001 and above

The Price New Symbol is the symbol that corresponds to the vehicles base price new. The Rate Symbol is how ISO recommends each vehicle be priced. As you see the A8/S8 models are down symboled while the S500 does not change and is higher than the A8/S8. So the A8/S8 is not the most expensive sedan to insure. (Even though you do say, "The A8 is also the most expensive sedan to insure for the price", I'm not quite sure what you mean by "for the price".)

Default That's a more equivalent comparison...

than the S500 (which appeared to be the original contention by Vito).
I paid $65K (USD, just under 100K Canadian) for my 2000L with everything except I got the 17" with all season tires (have the BBS wheels and Pilots for the summer). I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase.
There is no question, however, that if MB wanted to sell me an S430 LWB 4matic at a loss, say for about $50K, I would choose it over the A8L. Heck, if it were $65K I'd even prefer the S600 4Matic over a $65K A8L.

Default ** ! ! ! ! ! ! ** Re: Psychology - trust a BMW driver to immediately start talking about money....

I'm afraid your comments simply prove my point! - who else, but someone with an inferiority complex (and a hang-up over how much money they have in comparison to everyone else) would immediately jump to the conclusion that A8/S8 owners can't afford a Merc/BMW ?!

I'm afraid you're the stupid one for posting a message that justifies EVERYTHING I said in the first place. If you can't get over your complexes, just learn to live with them and don't waste server space on 'AudiWorld'.

Also, interesting login name you have there - 'Bimmer fan (I think)' - I suppose whether or not you're a fan depends on what your 'rich' friends happen to be driving ?

Have a nice day.

Default Yup, at least that's what I've heard...

I heard the S-class margin is pretty high for the MSRP in North America so DC actually make quite a bit of money out of the S-class. The thing about Audi selling the A8 at loss is from one of the car magazines I read awhile ago.

Both new BTW... try to check the prices of the cars before you make a comment like that...
