What are the details of this option?
Back in the day I had a neighbor who bought a Benz cheap from a wholesaler that ended up having bomb plating on the bottom and bullet-proof/resistant glass.. weighed a ton...
Whats the deal on this A8's glass?<ul><li><a href="http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/car/513117341.html">http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/car/513117341.html</a></li></ul>

Its not security glass. Its for sound deadening and temperature control.
It was originally an option, then became standard.
and the one in the URL is probably 5-7 grand overpriced...

meant for noise but satisfies a particular euro level of security for bullet proof.
I'll never own another A8L without the glass. Makes the car feel like your riding in a vault.

In 2004 it became " dual paned security glass " option code PDE. What is the diff? The name. It will quiet the interior and it IS harder to break in to if you are using a hammer or something similar to bash the windows.
BTW the car in question is my car, it is priced about $4k under edmunds ( which is not the law of the land ). To simply state that it is PROBABLY 5-7K overpriced is inaccurate and ignorant. I can trade it in for $15,000 today. Then someone asks the question " why are there not any 03 A8s for sale ? " . Supply and demand. I don't want to get in a pissing match but the person who made the comment on pricing has not seen the car.

See how fast it moves - while it continues to depreciate...
Wholesale on an '03 S8 in July-Aug was $25 to 26K. An A8 should be about 5K less. Add to that this particular 03 was sporting 98K. That rolls over 3 grand off the price of the car. Plus although its a nice color, is wasn't a popular one. If you think its worth it, by all means buy it...
Finally, nearly all used cars have depreciated a whole bunch more in the last 6 months, more due to the credit squeeze than anything else.
Sorry - I only go above wholesale for a perfect car. You don't like the analysis, oh well. My first job at 12 years old was driving cars through the Dealer's Auction between South Bend and Elkhart. And I've owned Audi's for 13 years - as many as four at a time...
Wait until next summer if you want to see some low prices. Wish I could make you feel better, but reality sucks sometimes. Be glad you don't own a big Mercedes...

Black book dec 24th 2007 edition lists rough condition $14,600 minus $825 for the mileage.
avg condition is $18,200 minus $1,575 for mileage.
clean is $21,000 minus $2,375 for mileage and
x-clean is $22,200 minus $3,100
now, those numbers are what a dealer ( Audi )would go by at least in this town. You are taking the lowball number and tacking on the high number milage penalty. That is old school car wheelin and dealin. I sell Audis as a full time job and maintain a 98.6 csi score . And finally I am selling the car privately because it is my personal car. Why would I take a loss of 5-7k if I can get more from the dealer ( and they treat me no different from any other money paying customer )
I still do not remember you looking at my car in person to evaluate its condition.
If that is how you buy your cars, great! But to say that anyone can buy a hard to get car for wholesale is just not accurate. I don't think I'm price gouging nor do I think it's giving the car away. With all due respect of course.

AND be willing to walk. Dealers buy WELL under wholesale all the time.
Don't think you're doing either price gouging or... But the market is soft on used cars, and even softer on those at 100K. I get emotional about my cars (especially Audis) - except when it comes to buying or selling them. Heck - I'll probably keep my old tornado red V8q because I just love the darned thing and I'd be lucky to get $2K for it regardless of what book is.
