Do you mean if you've started the car and step away from it and close the door? No, mine never did (either the 98 or the current S8), but I have to admit I've often wondered if it would.

Default Sometimes

If you are in a parking lot, get out of your car, lock it....then hit unlock and don't open a door within about 30 seconds, it will relock itself.

It doesn't have to be in a parking lot for that happen....

If you hit "unlock" and then don't open a door within 30 secs or something, they'll re-lock.

Whoops. I guess that is not a big deal as you'd still have the keys in hand, but it's worth keeping in mind. Thanks Paul, and A8CT.

Default Bad door pin switch

If a pin switch in the door jamb goes bad, the car will think that the door was never opened (even if you did open it.)

There have been times where I've been in my old Passat, unlocked the car, got it, looked through some CDs, realized I forgot something in the house and opened the door right as the alarm sets itself again.

Scared the crap outta me a few times.

However, if the engine is on the doors will not lock and the alarm will not set.
