Default Economy car

Hey, just a note on returning home this evening:

With a 12 hour round trip, out and return, to Delaware from S. Vermont, The A8 recorded a calculated 27.9 mpg, with an indicated (trip computer) 26.9 mpg.

Style, comfort, luxury, AND economy! and a 600+ mile/fill range.

These 4.2 liter V8's are sweet.

Default Yup, if I keep the rpm's below 2k in the city I get about 19/20 mpg

but the slow acceleration from a green light to another light that is red still pisses people off.

Default Below 2k??? How do you do that?

If I don't hit 6k off of a light, I'm painfully aware of it.

...and I still get 17MPG (average) in my S8.

Low RPMs are for the highway...live a little

It was a 69 mph average (from the trip display)
With TIP through the mountains.

Average "around town" is about 22 mpg

Default you average 22 around town? how the hell do you do that? I avg 21-22...

with a communte of 70% hwy and 30% town/back roads. I can understand the 26-27 hwy with a nonstopper but daily round town driving getting 22? really? whats the trick? Im just wondering what im doin wrong...if i do round town stuff i can barely break 18-19mpg

Default not sure Maybe it is the "hunting and Thumping" ;-)

Well, I am not sure what gives the good economy. Perhaps necessity! I was pleasantly suprised with today's results.

My wife drives to and from work during the week. About 30 miles each way. Up over two Vt. mountains on some pretty windy roads. Not my idea for "best economy". That's the "driving around" mode. I only get the "8" for the trips. Cruise control set =/- 70mph, windows closed, A/C on.... helps I am sure.

Other than that, maybe it's just clean living ;-)

Best regards with your driving.

Default Pure highway at 70 can = 30mpg; Pure stop and go city = about 20mpg - my experience

The car has a low drag coefficient, but it's a bit heavy. I ususally drive like somebody's grandpa in town, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. You have to get that mass up to speed.
