Default ECU is in the car...dealer needs to re-set?????

Got my ECU from Hoppen, used, 1 year warranty, from a super low mileage '00.

Now that it's in the car, it needs to be "re-set" the ECU to this car. Not expensive to do and it makes some intuitive sense, but....

Does this make sense or no? Anyone out there with this info?

TIA,

Tom

Default I don't know exactly what you mean

How is it reset? I imagine with the VAG 1552 or ross-tech software.

I do know that you can only buy an ECU from Audi if you a registered owner, this is due to the fact of all the people buying extra ECU's for their car who have turbos and have been chipping them. This way they have to give there old one back and they get a new one.

Many people were swapping them in and out when they would make a trip to the dealer.

I'm going out for a little bit, when I return, I can look it up for you.

Do you have to bring it to the dealer to have it reset?

Default I'm getting more details

It does need to go to the dealer, when I speak directly with my mechanic I'll get more info. One of his crew called me to give me an update.

Default Your New Wheels Look Hot!

I was at the shop the other day. The wheels look great but the car looked a little sad out there in the elements!

Default Recoding is a breeze

Yes, when the ECM is deenergized, it needs to be recoded.

You do this under the engine control module, "07" code control module.

If you have a AUX or AKB engine, these are the variables:

First 2 digits (country/emission standards):

05 - USA, Transient Low Emission Vehicle

07 - USA, Low Emission Vehicle (probably what you have)

Next digit (powertrain/additional systems):

5 - All wheel drive without ESP (what you have)

7 - All wheel drive with ESP

Next Digit (transmission):

5 - 5 speed automatic transmission (ZF 5HP24)

Next Digit (type of vehicle):

3 - A8 and S8

So your ECU coding would be: 07553

That's it! Is your ross-tech software working? If so, recode it yourself, would take seconds!

The AYS engine has slightly different coding, but it appears all of them came with ESP and your car does not have it as I recall.

One last thing, after recoding, the ignition must be cylced off and on to activate the coding
