Default Engine oil overfull -- is it a problem?

I'm buying my boss' 2000 A8 and I noticed its engine oil is above the "max" full line. I know some cars get very unhappy with too much oil. Should I bother to get a pump and remove some oil or ignore it?

Past experience with my 3.6l V8 quattro: 3.6 engine takes 8 qt, 4.2 engine takes 10 qt, the genius at the dealer overfilled and I did not notice for a couple of weeks. Ended up replacing O2 sensors. I would get the extra oil out of there.

Default 8 quarts in a 7.5 quart bag

Well I guess that explains it. They probably put in 8 quarts! Think 0.5q too much will hurt anything?

Default If it's over the top of the full line, drain some out

You could damage your catalytic converters. Don't chance it. If it's at the full line or less, you're okay.
