My engine light comes on and it says evap code......I have put on the gas cap tigher this last time and it took 275 miles before the light came on. The dealership said I need to have the engine speed sensor (part # 4D0905351) replaced but the cost for the part is $396. So I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions on this "procedure"!

Something isn't quite right, here.
Post 5-digit Audi DTCs, if you've got them.
If it is really an evap DTC, and it isn't a loose gas cap, it's often / commonly the seal at the sending unit at the top of the gas tank.<ul><li><a href="http://members.rennlist.com/drive944/fuel_leak_repair.html">See here.</a></li></ul>

My Vag-Com is putting out an code of16706 (engine speed sensor) intermittant. After checking with a meter, it apears to have failed. The problem is that the wire from the connector on the top disapears behind the engine. I don't seem to have a picture of how it is attached. TIA

Here it is.....it appears that the knock sensor is the thing on the left in the picture and the speed sensor is on the right with the electrical connector.

It is on the left side of the tranny, right above the tranny's name plate. It is monitoring the sender on the flex plate.

Can you tell me where you got the part? I have Code 16705. The dealer told me the sensor was $92 and that it would be a few hours labor to replace so a few hundred bucks. If it is easily accessible I will do it myself especially if I can also get the part for $35.
Where is the best place to get reasonably priced parts for the A8? I have a 97 4.2 by the way.
Thanks
