I don't know if you have a lift or not but that wouldn't be a bad way to do it because you can swap the tranny out of the car.

I had little garage space, so my car was lifterd on the driveway, I pulled the engine/tranny/subframe as one into the garage, took the subframe off, put the engine on the engine stand, and the tranny on 2 wooden horses. I cleaned the engine to pretty much brand new status, changed all of the seals including upper oil pan, rear seals, head gaskets, oil crank, exhaust/intake, etc. The only one I didnt touch was the rear oil seal. On the tranny I changed all the seals, filter, and had Tozo modify the parts. This is why I took it out. It is much easier to do than in the driveway laying on your back, you can check everything, it is easier to access areas, and you can clean everything too. Plus, it took me less time to pull everything that to take it apart on the car. It is really your choice, it can be done either way. And I didn't really worry about stripping anything cause the engine was out, so it'd be easy to replace bolts.

This is the first time ever for me to take the engine out so organizing and labeling pieces and such took a long time, especially on the driveway. But it was a job no longer than 1 day. And it was straight forward.
