I suspect it's working just fine....on the 97-99 A8's, they did not come with ESP

where I think I needed ESP.
I should mention one other fact, about 5k ago both the ESP and ABS trouble lights were on. The dealer traced the problem to a faulty Longitude sensor or something and replaced it. I'm not sure if this indicates there still can be a problem, or just the reverse, that it's less likely there's a problem.
Next time I drive the car, which won't be until Saturday, I plan to do some testing with ESP on, than off, and will post my findings...

I've also felt some ABS action when braking only moderately hard, much less hard than would lock a wheel on my old, pre-ABS car where the brake proportioning was done by sensing the weight on the rear suspension.
I think the manual said that if the ABS & brake warning lights come on, then the rear brakes may lock unusually easily. Does EBD essentially mean that the car is set up with rearward brake bias and then uses the ABS to keep the rear wheels from locking? If it works that way, we'd expect to feel early ABS action as it performs is "proportioning" role. This may make better use of the rear brakes than a system which, absent ABS, would always lock the front wheels first.
Anyone have a link to an authoritative description of EBD?

I've been reading through some of the other forums and someone in the S4 forum suggested that there was a VAG code to set ABS to soft. Is anyone familar with this?
Also, there seems to be a debate as to whether or not you can fully disable ESP by holding the ESP button down for 10 secs. Simply hitting the button and turning it off disables it, but ESP will still activate under certain conditions.
It seems that there has been more discussions on this in the other forums than in this forum...

I was never able to activate ABS on clean dry roads. That says that the tires have more grip than the brakes, which isn't the way it's supposed to be :-(
