Default Euro S8 wheels VS. US S8 wheels

What's the difference between the two? So far, I am only aware of Ronal manufacturing for US and Speedline Italy for the Euro versions. Other than minor aesthetic differences, I am without info. Can anyone shed light on this subject for me? Is one stronger and/or lighter than the other one? One more expensive than the other? Thanks in advance for any info on this!

Default Some pieces to the puzzle ...

.
The S8 Avus wheel is relatively strong. I've never seen a post here where someone mentioned damaging an S8 wheel (other than curb rash).

At 27.2 lb, the 18x8 S8 Avus wheel is also relatively heavy, though it's lighter than the 28 lb 17x7.5 Avus wheel on the S4. On wheelweights.net, 96 18x8 wheels weigh less than the S8 Avus, only 28 weigh more. My 20x9 HRE's weigh 27.0 lb.

I don't know who made the Avus wheel on my U.S. spec S8, but the wheel is stamped with "Made in Austria". Why do you believe that Ronal makes the wheels for US S8's and Speedline for Euro versions? Perhaps the minor cosmetic differences result from an earlier pre-2001 S8 Avus wheel.

Randy-
1st off, great car! 2nd, I was under the impression that Audi would have gone to the same manufacturer of Avus wheels as the S4/S6. The design itself, is identical to the S8 so I guess that the assumption was wrong? Being that the S8 wheel is made in Austria, does that mean that Ronal does not produce those?

At any rate, pre US S8 wheels, from info that I stumbled upon, indicate Speedline to be the manufacturer for Euro S8 wheels. Thanks again for entertaining my Q!

Default A new piece to the puzzle....

I recently purchased a set of Avus S8 Rims on Ebay. The listing said they were mint excepting a small amount of curb rash on one of the rims. When I received them one wheel had been welded and teh weld cracked. Two other wheels were cracked, the fourth, was so far out of round we couldn't figure why that one hadn't cracked.

Also, the tire (Potenza S-03 Pole Positions)sidewalls were patched. There were several plugs in one tire and fix a flat in one of the others...

Fortunately the kid who sold them was honorable enough to return my money.

I have since bought the S8 rims brand new. Can't wait until they arrive.

Default I saw those...

...They did not look to be the Avus S8 wheel on the US spec S8. Where they actually an Audi wheel?...maybe something done in Europe prior to the 2001 model?

Default PAGING ROAD KING

I am the new highest bidder on those S8 wheels. I saw them relisted and I jumped at the chance. However, now I see that there are other issues that the seller failed to mention to me. Can you email me: angeloeugenio@hotmail.com. I'd like to find out more from you. The young man's name is Will S. this should validate that I'm not just pulling your leg. I would really appreciate any more info you could give me on the wheels! Thanks in advance!
