Evaluating independent repair shops

Tomorrow I'm checking out 4 or 5 independent garages in the central and northern New Jersey area that have been listed on Audi or German-auto Web sites as good places to go for Audi repairs. I want to find out their experience with A8's. What should I be sure to look for and to ask?
Thanks for the tips.

If they do, that's great, probably a good place to try. If they don't, I wouldn't even bother to do troubleshooting because they'll be shooting in the dark.
If you want them to change a CV joint boot, that's a different story, you don't need to talk to the computer for that.
However, if you want them to reset the oil and inspection lights, you need the software. And I wouldn't teach them how to use it. If they don't have it, I would consider somewhere else to develop a relationship with.
