Took the S8 out for a run last weekend, had a great time and got to open it up a little bit. I'll call it a 'private road' located in the middle of nowhere, just in case anyone associate with the law asks...
Ran out of straight road before the needle would officially hit 150mph, and the car was smooth and stable - just beautiful to drive at that speed.
Could have held a normal conversation in the cockpit, with the background noise being a sweet V8 singing along nicely and the rush of air outside.
Good times. Speed limits suck.

And they are so good in the wet too. That's where the Dunlop SP 9000 Y also show their best BTW. Amazing...
Last (mid) night I had ~ 200 kmh to travel, it was raining quite a bit, yet the car handled like it was nothing. I was home quite soon... ;-)

Our police find it is much more profitable to set up speedtraps than it is to catch criminals... So guess what they're all doing? :-/
Fortunately I manage to find the odd private road here and there, and Germany isn't that far away... ;-)

Wyoming to be exact (like I said, middle of nowhere). Didn't hit the limiter yet, maybe on my next drive... It was still pulling pretty good toward the limiter before I ran out of straight road, so it shouldn't be too hard to get there.
BTW, mine's an S8, not sure if the A8's have a different limiter setting.

My 1997 S8 did 170 MPH in Germany and was stable, but that is very very fast! The problem in Germany is that most of the roads are 2 lane, so you come up on other cars at an amazing rate.
The speed limiter is not there on my car, either a previos owner had it removed, or it does not actually exist on an S8???
I also have a Porsche 911 (993) 1996 and have done 170 in that as well, and the S8 was more stable and sure footed at that speed. The Porsche was very nervous (Or was it me?).
Anyway the Audi is amazing in the wet at high speeds, however it understeer badly around tight corners on a wet road, but in the dry, it is simply amazing for a car of its size!
