Default Experience with Extended Warranty suppliers?

My Audi assured warranty will run out today on my 98 A8 with 68K miles. My dealer offers one for roughly $2500 for 3yr/36K miles. If you have any experience with different suppliers and their cost would appriciate a reply.

Default Accel Warranty Has Been Good to Work With

I bought a 5 year, 60,000 mile extended warranty from Accel last year for $1,350 (payable in 18 monthly installments) with no deductible. So far they have paid out about $800.00 in claims for a broken water pipe on the oil cooler and have replaced a CV boot. We are negotiating on fixing the electric headrest now.

I not sure whether the policy is still available as one of Accel's reps told me that the loss rate on A8s was huge. You can find these guys on the internet at accelwarranty.com.

Good luck.

Default That sounds like a great deal...

Do they also cover the transmission?

Did they do a car inspection? Was it painful?

Thanks

Default Re: Experience with Extended Warranty suppliers?

I bought a three year / 36,000 mile plan through AAA (nationwide casualty company) for about $2K on a 97 A8 with just under 60K miles. I don't trust some of the online companies (you can read about the horror stories and and bankruptcies). Unfortunately for you, the price changes dramatically after 60K miles. It covers just about everything (including tranny, seals & gaskets, timing belt, A/C, and even the radio). The inspection was easy... can get it done at one of hundreds of garages authorized by AAA. Deductible is $50 at authorized places and $100 at non-authorized places. I'm not sure if this was a great deal... but I definitely enjoy the car much more now, not cringing at every sound that comes out from under the hood. I got really nervous about the tranny after reading through this forum.

Default Anyone have experience with Warranty Direct ...they have a link on

the left side of AudiWorld homepage. I have an '01 A8L with factory warranty until 1/05 and Audi Assured until 1/07...I only drive 10,000 miles per year. They quoted me many options, but two look attractive. (1) 6 years from today & 100,000 miles @ $3574 (2) 5 years & 75,000 miles @ $2551. Looks like it is similar to original warranty, covering most everything; few exclusions listed. It is a California MBI policy, which I think is regulated by the state. Big question is do these guys readily pay claims without a lot of hassle?? Are dealers and mechanics happy with them? Does having this policy add value on resale? Thanks much.
