First, GL is not a ponzi scheme, unintentional or not. Wow, some language to use GL and Madoff in the same paragraph! ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Second, they are an insurance company, so they are nobody's friend. But they do pay claims left and right, just ask PK. I have probably 500 or so people with them, and while there is the occasional problem, it's not systemic.
Third, there is no excuse for a week going by without a callback. So after a couple/few days, please contact me and I will jump in.
Finally, it's a named component warranty. The purpose of that type of contract is to limit their liability to ONLY those components that are named in the contract. Yes, of course it's stupid not to replace a part that is a "while you are in there" job so they do not have to pay labor again in the future. And yes, it's borderline bullsh*t to only cover one part while a required part that is attached to it is not covered. But that's exactly why these contracts exist at reasonable prices, because they can stand by the contract and only pay what the contract states they have to pay. Unfair, and there is some grey area (which is why I am here), but there it is.

...to the RMS (which I did end up having them do while in there and folded it 'in' under another 'area' tho). Same bs about car up in air for week while he talks out of both sides of his mouth with neither making sense.
In the end, with deft / constant and rational approach you should preside. I believe the 'named components' for the engine are enshrouded under "any internally lubricated part". I was able to get them to cover the front diff output seal but not the oil cooler - gives you an example of the ??? approach. And I've had mixed success with control arms for some reason.
Regardless - have Bruce take it from here and hopefully with a supervisor. Bruce, as you do can you mention this guy "Jack" and these now pattern experiences? I think he hopes to exhaust the wrench's effort but when cornered finally pays.
I'm about to 'go in' FWIW - wish me luck. Great tho... of course now "they" will be faced with TWO //S8s within a week... d'oh 8-). Their problem.

...a pleasant flipside. Just sucks what you likely have to go thru to get there. Keep yer eye on the prize. They cannot just pay for a $5 seal and not the labor to get there BTW / FWIW, nope.
Prob is that it could certainly strain how your wrench feels when he sees you next time. I'm way fortunate to have that part ironed out but can easily see how bad that could suck.
Again, good luck. They're contractually obligated and they know it - just a matter of getting there.

Do you really want to pull the tranny to replace the seal if it is just collecting?
A few drops of oil, a little road grim, is it really a leak?
What if it's not the rear seal? What will you do then? Sure it's not a cam cover on the back of the motor or something else?

I did send Bruce $4K total for a warranty on each of my vehicles. I guess I'm a bit sensitive these daze as I count insolvencies rather than sheep as I doze off at night.
The "P" work will not be used by me on this forum.

And I guess it's hard to explain in words. I can't say how much is leaking and I don't think it's leaking so much that I'd notice it between oil change intervals----yet at least.
Don't know if it could be any of those other items you have listed but I'll mention them to my mechanic.
Again, one of the troubling thngs I'm hearing from the warranty guy is that I need to:
1. Have the transmission removed so the inspector can see the area (i.e. he can't look thru the opening by the starter or the other inspection hole
2. The inspector has to "witness it leaking" which you can interpret as "flowing"
3. If it is the seal, he will only pay for the seal and not the part the seal is pressed into, and that the fact that you can't presumably get the seal separate from the flange it's pressed into a seemingly impossible position.
Thanks.

It's an 01, you're gonna have a small amount of oil leaking. You are risking way too much IMO.
If it was a gusher or lost a quart every 3 weeks, yes, that would be a problem. However, it doesn't even sound like it leaves oil on the garage floor when you park it.
