Default Final word on fuel pump purchase?

It's fuel pump failure for my 97. I reviewed 2008 posts on pump replacement, but saw no final word on the most economical price or place to get the pump. Any guidance appreciated

Default If you are interested in used, I know where you can get one for $150.

They are located in Minnesota.
I have a phone # at work.

Default Re: Final word on fuel pump purchase?

I have designated myself as the sacrificial lamb. I ordered this one.
http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/detailspage.aspx?searchStr=PFP405052002001Z ($257.11)

They swear that it is straight from siemen's and it is the VDO405052002001Z. I have not recieved it yet. When I do and install I will post the results.

It is not the entire housing just the pump that goes in the housing. The complete housing can be had at www.genuinevwaudiparts.com for 549.75 part # is 4D0298087B.

No, I don't have a final word until I recieve, install and test.

http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/detailspage.aspx?searchStr=PFP405052002001Z</a

Thanks for the info and especially for taking that big chance. Will most likely wait to see what happens to the lamb.

Default I too will be donning the white fur and pink eyes and ordering from the outfit in Poland this week.

A kind forum member residing in the EU will reship it to me as they do not ship to the US. If it pans out perhaps a GB will entice them to ship stateside. I have no *immediate* plans to install it but my Rossatobin is empty. I will post photos and such when it arrives.

Mark

P.S. IIRC the outfit in Poland was the low cost leader by quite a margin.

Default Wouldn't it be nice if

There were a couple of pump units on the shelf stateside that could be drawn on when the need arises. Like when Tozo was broken down roadside.

The replacement is available with a credit card transaction and stock replacement is the follow up.

Like the timing belt tools, only different ;-)

A weakness of such a scheme is if there gets to be a sourcing difficulty or price change.

Well, if several listers make purchases , the benefit is in place anyway.

Random thoughts.
