It's been 3 months since I've 'driven' my S8 but ran it down to Santa Fe over the weekend to visit friends. What a car! Plenty of open roads w/ no other vehicles and opportunities to mash the throttle at speed. I was getting nervous when approaching the rev limiter several times on the drive down when my speed was only at 140mph, then it shifted into 5th. Just about like RYoung's chart shows. Had a chance on the return trip yesterday to enjoy 5th gear for about 5 seconds before the speed limiter kicked in. I averaged more than 120mph for about 40 miles, and was amazed to still get 20 mpg driving at these speeds. These cars are simply amazing.

Although I don't think radar is my #1 enemy. Vascar, airplanes and helicopters are much greater concerns. I don't ever want to get pulled over at such speeds, so picking the road and conditions carefully is critical. Long live recreational speeding.
