Default Finally! Tracked down the clunking....

Well.....Meyle components are known for their quality, but I seemed to have bad luck with my suspension. My sway bar link bushing pulled out of the link after 2 months installation....replaced that. Just found the remaining pesky clunking noise last night. Its the 6 month old Meyle lower straight control arm bushing. NOT the ball joint, but the bushing. The rubber is twisted within the cylinder of the bushing, allowing the inner cylinder to tap against the outer cylinder! I was told by ECS that Meyle has a warranty for this. Anyone else get a faulty suspension part from Meyle?

Default great, just installled the whole set a few days ago. They sent me the wrong sway bar links

in the kit. I got mine from Blau and am going to ask them what the warranty is. Did you use the nuts that came with the kit for the lower arms ? I didn't because they are much smaller than the originals.

To me, it looks like you would be torquing down on the metal insert in the hub. I reused the ones that were on there already. Might pick up new ones.

Default I used the bolts for the upper arms only. The other ones I reused the old bolts and nuts.

You might be right about the torquing. I think I may have been in a rush and torqued it too tight with out the t-wrench.

Default it's supposed to be 92lbs for both. With the Meyle nuts, it seems like you would be connecting with

the bushing on the hub and in effect, pushing it out or down. If it were 25lbs it probably wouldn't matter but 92lbs is pretty tight.

Default

For reference, it is the bushing where the shock assembly mounts to the lower straight.

Default I tore everything in the front end out again..

I found that the bolt sleaves went bad on the upper straight arm. they are about 2.50 each from the stealer. I am going to replace and hope that fixes the issue. I have a feeling though it is something in the steering rack. it does have play in it when I put the car up. I should know more in a day or too. that is how long it take before the sound comes back.

Default on some racks there is a way to adjust out the play

I just did this on my BMW, I don't know if we can on the A8. On the BMW it was just a matter of adjusting (turning in) a bolt on the rack. Took out quite a bit of play.

Default Correction. I spoke too soon. I had everything apart in the front end last night. I replaced the

control arm with my old one (which only had 3 months installation. It was an Audi OEM one and I got the rest of the Meyle set to match). Well the sound came back. I think that it is in the shock assembly. I am going to replace the Boges with Bilsteins and check the strut mounts.
