Are you happy you did? What else did you drive to compare it to, what did you drive before it or what is your "other"/"second" car? Would be great to know S8 owners car background. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Default You need to pick the right car for you. Not just how it drives but how fits into your long term

automotive and financial plans. I am not crazy about gizmology, so a simpler car is to my taste as I keep them a long time. Consider though, Audi rarely uses the gadgetry aspect the way other brands have. The car just functions well without the owner having to take a degree in automotive technology just to operate it. I hope this continues.

The A8/S8 is just now climbing out of the pit of non-recognition. Give it another 10 to 20 years like BMW, and Audi will dominate if the last few years are anything to go by.

Hope to see you in the next gen A8:-)

Default That is exactly the problem.

I also like simple but good. That is why I am looking at S8 and not at S500.

However, I do not see myself in current S8 for a long time. And to sell it in 3 to 4 years would mean to take a much greater $$$ loss than one could do with S-class even though S-class is more expensive to begin with.

Lets face it, current A8/S8 is not timeless nor, IMO, any other 4door car sold in US today.

I like to keep for a long time (and have done so) only cars that I love - have passion for - and there are only 3 for me that I could afford: last 300ZX, that I sold after 10 years and 36K miles(can't believe my wife talked me into selling it); last Supra (still under 7K miles after 4 years - again wife works very hard to achieve above result, but the score on that one will be 1:1); and current CLK-class(fortunately wife loves it - no she does not drive it - I got her the same face with 4doors to keep her happy). 993 Carrera4 S would be another - unfortunately the maintenance costs are prohibitive for me.

And yes you can bet you'll see me in new S8 when it comes out.

Again, thanks for your input.

I looked at a S500, S55, and M5. I was replacing a 2000 740i Sport. My other car was an X5, which I just replaced with an allroad. We are now a two Audi household.

I am very happy with the S8. I felt it was a better deal then the S500,S55, and more practical then an M5 (not a winter car). I liked the idea of getting a high performace vehicle that could still be used in a New England winter.
