Default front diff

I went to go chang my front diff fluid and it is BONE DRY. No oil at all in it. I don't see any oil leaks. The diff is not manking any BAD noise.. No whining, grinding etc.. seems to engage still in awd when needed. I filled it now, but how cold that of happened. God knows how long it has been like that. Any know causes for fluid leak to look for? Has anyone else had this issue... thanks

Default There is no drain plug in the front differential. How do you know it is dry?

Our AWD is full time 4 wheel drive. There is a little oil pipe in the tranny next to the valve body that has gear oil to lube an inner drive shaft bearing. If it leaks, you can lose gear oil, but it is highly unlikely, you would have very bad shifting problems. Oil can leak trough the differential seals more likely.

Default on my other car(toyota) I had a bone dry front diff. but i didnt notice until it started making

noise. I believe it requies enough fluid not to. I think even with it being very low you would here some grinding/squealing.

Default I had the valvoline shop change it for me since they

had a big sale locally.. Changed the rear and front. He said that when he pulled the plug to fill nothing came out. I have not done this myself yet or really looked at it to see how procedure is done. But Like I said the car is fine and never had any issues with the front diff.. I am sure I am fine.. I will keep a eye on it and look for leaks. Right now the car is laid up looking for a new axle assembly.. Also need a new bolt for the upper control arms bracket. the bolt snapped off while trying to loosen it.

Of course nothing came out. The plug is the top level.

Default As I've posted before, I would not do the upper control arms w/o having the bolts&nuts..

they don't come in any of the kits that I've seen out there. If you don't have them, they're guaranteed to be stripped, seized or break. Of course if you do get them, you probably won't need them
