I re-read this post again, after my challenging morning today!
I had used the custom aluminum replacement cooler pipe, now 3 weeks after the job, all of a sudden, coolant is leaking out of my oil cooler in steady stream, not just a drip!
I put in 3L of coolant in the expansion tank last night, this morning the tank was bone dry, after just 15 minutes of driving and the red flag came on. Parked the car and had it towed to the mechanics shop.
Frustrated! Could it be that the entire oil cooler casing needs to be changed; did the mechanic botch the job in installing the aluminum pipe (scratching the housing)?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Cheers

Someone botched something...OR a million to one shot that something else failed.
The housing doesn't go bad, but the oil cooler matrix (removable and replaceable individually) inside the housing can breach...not common though. The matrix is attached to the inside of the housing with 4 seals also...if those were replaced, one may have not seated correctly before torquing the bolts. Then there's the seal on the outer cooler pipe...rolled or split.
It;s gotta come back off. 99.99999% chance this "mechanic" did it and needs to make it right or pay to make it right, one way or the other.

Mechanic now is telling me, the oil cooler is fine but rather a pipe leading into the cooler, carrying the coolant is broken.
I have no idea what he is talking about, plus he is telling me that he can't locate the part and it might take up to two weeks to get the part.
Any ideas?
I am going to try to get the part number from him tomorrow.

more than likely he damaged the pipe when reinstalling, it is difficult to think of failure of a hard metal pipe any other way.
The previous mechanic that did mine (previous owner) didn't seat the pipe all the way into the oil cooler.
I was amazed it hadn't leaked.
