Hello everybody,
I've just put my sommer tires/wheels the other day and realized that my front rotors need to be changed soon. Looking at the rotors/calipers assembly it seems to me that the brake bleeder valve needs to be removed in order to remove one of the caliper bolts, is this true ? I have never seen such design on any Audi I have ever owned.Any input will be greatly appreciated

take a look at the audipages procedure. It's a simple job to do and I know I didn't have to remove the bleeder valve.

The car I have is a 2001 A8L with dual piston calipers and it is not the same as the one in the Audipages, just looked under the car the brake valve bleeder is right there and I don't see any other way to remove the caliper bolt w/o first removing the bleeder...

I don't have a rotor replacement procedure, but it's the same brakes as the A6 and S4, I'm sure there is a procedure somewhere. Once you remove the pads, you can move the caliper in/out on the guide pins.

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/susp_whls_brake_steer/frontbrakestwin.html</a

sorry about that then. I'm looking at the Bentley but their crappy diagrams leave out the top bolt. But I see what you mean, looks like you do have to move it. What a PITA!

I have some pictures, it appears there is a large hex head behind the brake bleeder....is that the bolt you remove to get the caliper off?
There is also a "ribbed bolt" that is located just forward of that.....I'm thinking that's the bolt to get the caliper off.

Paul,
I will take a closer look after ordering the rotors,as you mentioned, it appears there is a large hex head behind the brake bleeder, that's what I was refering to,please send the pictures, Bentley is not too specific about it.
Thanks,
Dan

I have a 2000 A8L with the dual piston aluminum caliper - like A6's and S4's have.
The aluminum caliper is bolted to the metal bracket which wraps up and over the rotor.
Look at the backside of the metal bracket behind the rotor, there will be 2 bolts that are parallel with the drive shaft that bolt the metal bracket to the front knuckle/upright of the car - I think 18mm or 21mm - I don't remember for sure.
Remove those 2 bolts and the whole caliper and bracket assembly comes off so you can then remove the rotor.
