Default UPDATE on the coils.

Replaced the three coils that showed misfires while reading the measureing blocks 15/16/17 and the engine running.

Coils on # 8, 7 and 1 were all showing misfires, with #8 being the worst, and 7 and 1 showing about 1/2 as many misses.

The engine ran fine before, and since I'd cleared the codes, with the external fuel pump providing plenty of fuel, it's running great.

But, now with the coils replaced, the engine is smoother if that's possible, and it pulls harder than ever. (This S8 was never a slouch, but dang it has even more power than before.)

I can't say I disagree that I've never seen a coil fail only partly, but these three were absolutely not giving it all under load, and the engine now runs smoother than ever.

I've been watching fuel economy, and it appears it has improved about 1 to 2 mpg as well, so the cost of the coils will be paid off pretty fast too.

I only replaced the 3 coils that showed misfires at higher RPM. There was no way to simulate load, and I did not try a rolling log of the numbers while the car would be under load and higher RPM. (I suppose I could have done that, but the other 5 coils all showed zero misfires at higher RPM, and the car runs great, so don't fix what not broken right?)
