Default Re: The 18" bolt has a name: Screw with sealing ring. PN 4D0 201 262 A (Ref. A8Q, 2002, 201-90)

The work was not done by a dealer but an Audi/BMW/Merc Mechanic Shop (dealer wanted $112/hour). Looking back, maybe going cheaper labor was a bad idea.

I have a 2000 A8, way out of any warranty.

They tried to cut the bolt head off, which allowed the pump assembly to move up several inches, but not much more. That alone took about three hours of labor ($300)

I also posted a new topic because my key is stuck in the ignition. Car can be driven, and turned off. Audi says it could be close to $600.

Default Too bad. I guess if you go to a shop that has no clue, you get to pay the price.

Obviously they had NO IDEA how the assembly went into/should come out of the gas tank. Cutting the heat off the "bolt", to me, is the opposite of stripped threads. Personally, I'd think of suing in small claims court. But hey...

I agree. I was so frightened by the fuel pump procedure after reading all the posts regarding replacement, but it really wasn't too bad. I think if I had to do it again, it would only take no more than an hour. My new fuel pump costs $580(?).

BTW, we are going to do this replacement in our own shop. We'll disassemble the unit that comes out of this '97 and I'll post the actual part number of the internal pump.

It is still weird that the pump assembly now costs $750 and doesn't even include the sender.
