Default Fuel pump sudden death.

Traveling about 75mph on 77S in NC....suddenly the car downshifts, and eventually dies. Flatbed to the dealer...turns out to be the fuel pump.

OK, guess at 107K these things happen.

Dealer just called me after 4 days to tell me the following:

Fuel pumps (kits) are on back order.
They no longer can source a new pump, but rather a rebuild kit is avail..
They (the dealer) suggest that I source it, no kidding, on my own if I thought I could do better
(dealer roughly 580.00 for the rebuild kit)

My question is, are they correct on rebuild kits avail only, and, any ideas where I could source one of these things.

Default We have to figure out where to get the pump only

You don't need the whole kit, just the pump......here is a picture of the pump out of Luiz's Brazilian S8 with a new pump for the twin turbo set up, it say ASSVE on the side of it:

Default Here's the VDO Part Number from tyresmoke.net

I posted this to tyresmoket.net.....somebody posted some info a while back that they had the part number, he sent me an email:

Found the info you were looking for )

For all those in the UK with this problem (cream crackered fuel pump), it is possible to get a replacement from siemens VDO. Audi try to sell you the pump and it's housing which sits in the fuel tank, but i chose to get a new pump and replace the old one whilst keeping the old housing. Seimens very kindly gave me the correct part number for the pump and pointed me in the direction of a local supplier. Lucas service (Bristol)(my local VDO supplier) sold me a new pump for one hundred and twenty pounds including VAT. Lets just say thats a lot better than six hundred. The part number for my vehicle's fuel pump is : 405-052-002-001G and the original failed at 85,000 miles if that helps anyone.

Default Re: Fuel pump sudden death.

i had the smae problem adn i was gogin crazy changing fuel pumps. The dealers wanted to cahrge me US$1500 for the entire kit. So i made a modification adn installed a 2004 NIssan Patrol 8cly fuel pump and now it just runs great. Speak with your mechanic nad im sure he will reccomend japanese reliability in this german automotive engineering marvel
