The ghost revving my A8's engine happened to me (my wife) too!

My idea is that the throttle cable needs to be oiled and that under cold weather+wear-n-tear it gets sticky. Once she drove for a while, parked, ran another errand it straightened out, probably because the temp under the hood went up a bit.
