Default Well, it would have been mine now

if I hadn't found out it was MY 2001 1st registered July 2002, and not the 2002 model advertised. Dealer showroom car...

Search goes on, and I do want one with the CF trim. I believe it's perfect for the S8, but maybe not so much for the A8?

What do you guys think about the "Black Edition" cars? Here's one:

Default FWIW, I priced all the D2 Carbon pieces out before doing the Vavona...

....and the best price I could find was at Impex. They quoted me something in the $1900 range (can't remember the exact number). Europrice was somewhere around $2800. Of course with the Dollar to Euro being what it is these days, I am sure it's much worse now.

I never had any luck finding an used set anywhere.

Default Or is it in fact wood?

I am also looking at getting this one-of-a-kind beauty:
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=284352&pageNumber=1&lang=d e&tabNumber=2

The ad says "carbon dekor", but I got the full original specs of the car on e-mail, and it says "Dekoreinlagen Holz Myrte Dunkel", which translates into "Decor inserts wood "Myrte Dark".

Here is another one with the same stuff:
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=57529867&pageNumber=1&lang =de&tabNumber=2

Again, the ad says "Dekoreinlagen Holz Myrte Dunkel", in other words wood.

The third one I look at has the same thing according to specs, and the company sales rep describes it as "greyish wood inserts". Difficult to tell from the pictures though:

http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=60286165&pageNumber=1&lang =de&tabNumber=2

So, is this carbon really some kind of wood called "Myrte Dunkel"?

I have asked for more pictures of the last one, and asked the owner of the first one for more details. It's very hard to find anything on the web, other than references to the VW Tuareg when I search for "holz myrte dunkel". And then it looks more like pretty ordinary brown wood to me....

Strange, but when I think of it, I never ever heard about any factory carbon option for the D2.

Default Re: You could get carbon from the factory

I do believe you, you're the official expert. :-)

I'll try to get some sense out of these Germans, not all that easy since my German is about as good as their English...

BTW, I remember when I got my A8 back in 1999, I was looking at countless cars during my rally down in Das Vaterland. There was this one gorgeous silver 1997 S8 with a fantastic special order bicolor interior (silver/grey). It had greyish wood inserts that looked like wood, not like the carbon pictures showed here. The color was pretty much like carbon, but the texture was unmistakable wood. Very nice indeed.

Too bad I couldn't afford it back then, never forgot that car!
