Default Got my tire siped

I just had all my tires siped. $10/each. I kind of noticed that there is more cushion on bumps and reduced road noise.
Siping is suppose to increase the traction on winter weather and wet pavement. Will see.
It is going to get cold here in MN from end of this week....

I had my tires siped last year - it's amazing how well it works on snow and ice. Traction is increased at least 50%. Also helps in rain.

I live in the mountains of Colorado - so I see a large amount of snow and ice.

I suggest everybody get their tires siped.

Are there any specific compounds that are better? I have Goodyear all season on my stock wheels.

Default There is a trade-off.

As you said, traction on snow and ice is hugely improved. You can almost imagine all those edges just clawing for traction.

Dry traction does suffer. Especially during hard cornering, you will be able to feel the instability and squirming in the tread blocks. Also, tread block chunking is likely during hard cornering.

FYI - Many shops wont sipe your tires unless they are brand new never used on the street because small rocks imbeded in the tires will cause dammage to the cutting blades in the sipe machine.

I used to run siped tires all the time on my trucks and it makes a HUGE difference on ice and snow. Feels like you got studded tires at times.

The trade off is that if you drive on gravel roads you will prematurely wear out the tires.

Absolutely right, good and bad. Manufacturer will not warranty tire following siping either

OK I'll bite...What does "siped" mean? Webster can't explain it.
