Is the grass really greener on the other side(s)?

Car looks sharp, works great, even trannsmission feels like getting better (may be I'm just getting used to it), I only have TC problem once in a while thats it! Feels like engine will last for another 150k miles. Every car is different, some of them may simply been abused by previous owners (pretty common for lease cars). Will buy again, for sure.

- The A8/S8 uses the ZF 4HP24A.
- The BMW 3 and 5 series and 735 use the 4HP22, the 750 and 850 use the 4HP24.
- The Jaguar XJ8 and XJR 4.0 use the 4HP24.
- The Range Rover uses the 4HP24.
My '89 Range Rover (sister got it at 150k miles) is currently at 250k miles with zero tranny problems. I did use Mobil Synthetic ATF in that tranny, changing the fluid every 50k miles.
Knock-on-wood, but I don't think we're seeing tranny problems on 2000 or later A8/S8's. The tranny was "upgraded", and I hope it does make a difference.

So long as they're not revved in park.
The main transmission problem in A8s from model year 2000 or later is fairly rare so far. Reverse fails on some transmissions made in 1999 and 2000 because ZF had tinkered with the design or material of the clutch F piston seal, and it turned out not to be a good idea. I got to pay to participate in their experiment.

related to the programming. IMHO the locking up of the TC at such low rpms wears out the friction material, and then when it slips- even a little- a downshift is prompted but is unneeded- then the tras upshifts again, only to find slippage. Hence the hunting... But thats just my $.02

In addition, unlocking the T/C with a throttle lift seems to add nothing but additional wear & tear.
Has anyone ever approached GIAC (or another chip tuner) and suggested that they offer an A8 tranny longevity chip?
