Since the weather has been in the 30's and 40's for the past few weeks, I've noticed it only in the last couple of weeks. Always after being left in the garage overnight (eg, 2 nights), the first 15-20sec after starting off, there's a groaning noise seemingly originating from the steering rack area when turning the wheel left and right. Pump? Fluids? I'll ask the dealer to look into it..

Mine does the same thing, has been doing it for a year. No power steering fluid leak, flushed the system months ago without problems.
The noise is worse when it is colder. We have had a few -5 degree days where it was pretty loud for a minute or so.
I am pretty sure it is not control arms since mine are all brand new on both sides.

...'01 //S8. The 12F degree a.m.'s this past week would cause an 'arthritic' air bubble creak sound when *almost* turned to full lock - know better than to fully lock obviously - upon intial cold start. Doesn't always do it either. The colder the worserer - & gonna be 1F tonight whoo hoo...
Anywho, it's not a groan like my UrS6 when low on Liquid Gold, that was much more graunchy / granular. This is definitely more, well again, arthritic. I too was thinking maybe the inline filters. Know the //S6 system was finicky with all that.
Least me extended warranty is on derst way - PP you in the a.m. Bruce!
I'm ignoring the sound, for now. Again, sounds like airbubbles of sorts.
