Well, the car acceleration cannot be stopped. Driving down the highway, trying to brake, RPM sky rockets car was forced to stop and acc was still there.. Scary moment once more..
I have called dealer and asked.. They are puzzled... Cannot get my car in til 1/4/05...
I have looked and could not find anything wrong or damaged, ran the VAG diag.. Nothing..

Default If you'll scroll down you'll see about my post where it happened to my wife....

and happened to us, kind-of the other day.

We were driving to the in-laws for x-mas lunch and she'd take her foot off the gas and the car would surge to 1300rpm (when it usually drops under 1000rpm and slows down.) After popping a bit on the gas it stopped.

Kamakazie theorized it was the rubber throttle boot needing some lubrication.

Default Cable sticking?

There is a cable, right? I haven't looked at it closely.

If so, has anyone tried one of those motorcycle cable lubing attachments, with some Triflow or equal spray lubricant?

Default Personally I think that is what's up....

Wife reported the pedal felt weird. Hasn't happened to me while I was driving yet, so I don't know.

This only seems to occur on high-milage A8s so to me it seems wear-n-tear induced.

Default That's what I would suggest

If the temps are very cold, you might even have some moisture in there and it freezes up enough to overcome the spring return pressure.

I would try lubricating it as Jim suggests.

Default And by "spray lubricant", that excludes WD40.

WD40 is not a lubricant. It is suitable for use as a corrosion inhibitor, but it is not a lubricant.

Just thought it best to make that explicit.

Default And here's the artifact you're looking for, at your local motorcycle shop.

Default WD stands for Water Displacement, and as Jim says it is NOT a lubricant........

It was developed by General Dynamics in the late 50's to protect the outer skin of the then new Atlas ICBM from corrosion. Since the Atlas was a pressure stabilized design (very thin steel tank walls) they couldn't tolerate much corrosion before they would rupture. By displacing the water, the WD-40 inhibited corrosion. The 40 is from the fact that the formula that is now in use was the 40th try from the R&D lab :-)
