Default Cracked ignition switch could cause all kind of problems. Typical Audi problem.

I had a broken switch and it cranked, but didn't trigger the fuel pump relay. Tried again and it didn't crank. but I could hear the fuel pump running.

Default D'oh!! <smacks forehead>

I just remembered Tomas, that a broken ignition switch would also cause your headlights to not come on sometimes. Does the key spring back into position when you start the car or do you have to move it back to the run position manually? Crap, it makes perfect sense. It's only a $50 fix by the way. Part # 4B0905849. This is a part you want to purchase from the dealer or genuineaudiparts.com as an aftermarket switch is very unreliable. Extra bonus: write-up is on audipages.com but of course.

Default My switch seems to work fine, it springs back...

remember the car starts on the second crank.
If the switch is bad wouldn't it be haphazard starting or not at all.
My starting is very predictable. No start on first crank, always start on second crank.

I would still check out the ig switch. They fail all the time.
