has anyone had a coil fail on them (on the road)? I just helped out my friend with his '01 A4...

he was about 1/2 way into a 300 mile drive and the car started running rough, flashing CEL. Turned out it was a bad coil pack which was already replaced during a recall a couple of years ago.
Made me think having a cheap ODB scanner and an extra coil in the trunk might not be a bad idea since it's an easy roadside repair.

Kimberly's 02 A4 had multiple failures, to the point where it was at the dealer for 10 days while waiting for a new coil pack. She left the dealer and 1 mile down the road another had failed.
They ended up replacing the other two once they got enough in stock under a recall.
A lot of A4's and Passats around 01 and 02 were affected.
I wouldn't be too worried about it on the A8.
