Has anyone used PaulW's Phone install on an A4?

I have a 2001 A4 without bose. The install was super easy using Pauls instructions on my A8. But I wanted some assurance that the wiring would be the same on an non-bose A4.
Thanks

I ordered the Motorola S9703 kit, and am looking for a mast antenna. Armed with Paul's instructions, I am going to allow a local custom installer try it. I recall seeing someone installing one in an A4.

I think the non bose radios use stock speakers for the hands free kit. I wouldn't do it unless you could look at the Bently wiring diagram for your car first.

It is prewired. I found the 25 pin conector in the trunk and there is a jack in the arm rest like the A8 has but no speaker in the door pillar. Even if I looked at the wiring diagram in the bently manual it wouldn't help. I'm not an engineer like so many of you. I have to follow simpler instructions like those you put up on audipages.

I learned a lot to do my install on this article, at the bottom of page it has "appendix", it states:
Q: I don't have a Bose system. What's the difference in how to implement the handsfree kit?
A: The Bose system has a dedicated speaker, but is still controlled by the radio. This means that if the radio DOES NOT MUTE, the speaker is dead. When the mute is activated, the speaker output can be heard.
For the NON-BOSE, the speaker output is routed thru the radio, and is user selectable from the right to left front speakers. This is done by the controls on the radio. Read the manual on how to do this.
Other than that, the wiring is IDENTICAL from the perspective of this interface box.

in your install you use the db25 to send the power and other functions up to rj45 in the arm rest. In the link they use the db25 to connect the phone in the trunk instead of sending everything up front. Is that correct? The box that he builds seems to complicate things. I'll need to figure out a mute switch because the star-tac doesn't have a mute output.
thanks again Paul

I realized that the 8 pin connector was under the armrest and figured I would use that conductor too as I recall.
The startech doesn't have a mute? Than you could either put in a switch or just don't hook it up. The switch would connect to the "radio mute" wire on the wireless brain box, and the other side would be connected to ground.
When the switch was switched "on" it would ground out the brain box radio mute lead and it would mute the radio.
