Headlamp washer help

Since my 1998 A8 is apart for TB/oil cooler fix, I looked at the headlight washer system which didn't function. While the windshield washer alone works, there's no spray with headlights on...this pump works when 12V applied directly but input wires have no juice when washer lever/lights-on applied. Someone mentioned a "relay" in the past to my query about nonfunctioning lamp washer...anyone have the specifics to where this relay/fuse is since I see no Owner's Manual info. in it's "Fuse/Relay" section, nor mention of one on fuse cover.
TIA,
Craig

I noticed in the past that it didn't seem to squirt the headlights unless the outside ambient temperature is somewhere around 40F or lower....but not positive.
You really don't want it coming on in the middle of summer.
I do recall while looking at the schematic for the climate control that it has an input to the windshield/bumper washers....maybe that was it, when it's cold out it squirts, when it's not, it doesn't? I don't know.....just a guess.
Has it ever worked in the real cold?

That's the way I remember it. Also, they only function with the headlights on. So if I'm correct, you actually have 3 pumps on the car.

Interesting...however the unheated garage the car was in when I tried the headlamp washer was definitely in the 30 degree F range. A Search revealed, Paul, that you showed a headlight washer relay in position #3 on your '97 schematic. I think I'll give that a try next. The pump (there are 2 pumps only on my '98..a smaller anterior pump for the windshield and a more lateral, larger pump for the headlights , both plugged into the reservoir)) definitely will work when powered so the problem is upstream.
Thanks All,

the squirters to work. Think I'd even want them to squirt if the lights are off, so lights are clean when I turn them on and don't need the washer. Don't know what mine do, I'll check (later though...just washed car!) The more I think about this question, the more I think this is a fairly unnecessary option for a car.
