Default Headlight bulb - xenon or halogen

99 Audi A8 4.2Q
Passenger side headlight just went out and I'm not sure how to tell which bulb I had and need to buy. Is there a way to tell without removing the bulb first?

If they have a box like this on the back of them, they are xenons....if that is the case, you want to get a pair, get them off ebay and get them about 6000K as I recall.

Default check the bulb and ballast first from the other side

before you buy a new set of bulbs try the bulb from the other/working side first. If the other side doesnt work I would try swapping the ballast (the box in PaulW's picture) from the working side. I had the same issue with a Xenon out and it was the ballast not the bulb that needed to be replaced.

Default Air Filter in the way?

I believe it's the air filter in the way of getting at the passenger side headlight, correct? Any chance anyone has instructions on how to get at that sucker? Or perhaps instructions on how to swap out the igniters to see if they're the culprit. As you can tell, I've never dealt with the headlights on this car before. My dealer wants $175 just to change the headlight bulb and I think that's ridiculous... it's not that difficult is it?

Default Get the repair manual

It's about $75 bucks at www.bentlypublishers.com, it tells you everything. Would save you $100 over the stealer on this repair alone.
