So after reading the Heated Steering Wheel Poll thread, all I can think about is having my steering wheel nice and warm.

Is there a fix for this wheel? Is it possible?

You can re-wire it or buy a new wheel.

I have been looking on ebay for a wheel. How would you ever know if the used wheel's heat was working??? I think fixing what I have sounds like time and money better spent.

Is there a step by step process to rewire it? Can you buy just the heating element? (if that is what is shorted out)

Have you checked fuses? Later models have a seperate 10amp fuse just for the wheel heater...don't know about a 97.
If you have the owner's manual, it's in there...or check the chart on the back of the fuse cover.

It does have a dedicated fuse (10). Sadly my fuse is in good shape. Any other thoughts out there on how I might fix this wheel?
